Within a stone's throw of the sandy, sheltered cove at picturesque Cwm yr Eglws, nestles Troed-y-Rhiw, a traditional fisherman's cottage brimming with seafaring character, exposed wooden beams, a cosy wood-burner and a spacious terraced garden. All the ingredients for a perfect coastal break. If you're longing for beach days, exploring the coastal path and the surrounding area, boat trips, leisurely sunny days in the garden or glorious nothing days, Troed-y-Rhiw has something for everyone.

The stream runs through the village and children spend hours playing in the rock pools or building sandcastles. Do try the ice cream, the perfect treat on a sunny beach day. The quiet lane in front of the cottage forms part of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path leading to the wonderful circular walk around Dinas Island, part of the National Trust. Next to the beach is what remains of St Brynach's church, which was for the most part, washed away during the great storm of 1859. The bell tower wall of the chapel still remains.

Sink into the comfy sofas in the spacious double aspect sitting-room, and browse the small library of guide books and novels or get the family together to play a few board games. The large oak gate legged table in the dining-area is perfect for holiday meals or hearty breakfasts before an adventure filled day. With an open plan design, the chef can join in the laughter whilst preparing something delicious for all to enjoy.

On the first floor, the well presented bedrooms offer a peaceful night's sleep. Listen closely and you will hear the waves gently lapping onto the shore on a calm summer's night or crashing on to the rocks in the mid-winter, as the wood-burner roars. Throughout the year, Troed-y-Rhiw is the perfect destination for a beach holiday. There's even a handy space for hanging wetsuits and placing muddy boots. Recently landscaped, the large terraced area is a joy. Take in the fresh sea air, whilst enjoying sunny breakfasts or cook up a feast on the large stone barbecue.

The local shop at Dinas provides most essentials, including logs for the wood-burner. Newport, three miles away, has a very good butcher, delicatessen and chemist, for restaurants there is Llys Meddyg and for a pub, there's The Golden Lion. Within a fifteen minute walk from the village is The Old Sailors, an excellent pub which serves local lobster, crab and fresh fish.

Within striking distance of the cottage, there is so much to do. Try kayaking, canoeing or paddle boarding in the area. Fishguard, the beach and park at Goodwick and St Davids, with its magnificent 12th Century Cathedral and mystical vibe, are a must. Book a dolphin spotting boat trip in New Quay, about 50 minutes away or from St Davids, the Thousand Island Expedition boat trip. Catch a ferry from Fishguard for a day trip to Ireland, try coasteering with Celtic Quest or visit one of the many family attractions nearby.

There are glorious Pembrokeshire beaches galore, Pwllgwaelod, where children love the rock pools at low tide, Aberfelin, Aberbach, Newgale and Whitesands for surfers, Abereiddy, Abermawr and the Parrog at Newport. Newgale also offers surfing lessons. Keep an eye out for local musical events. The Welsh love a music festival. To name a few, St David's Cathedral Festival is at the end of May, Aber Jazz and the Blues Festival are in Fishguard in August and the Rhosygilwen Summer Opera Festival.

Troed-Y-Rhiw has it all for a memorable beach holiday throughout the year.
