Zip and linkNestled in the sleepy Somerset countryside, The Cowshed is a converted farm building, offering an excellent retreat. From the moment you arrive at this 'off the beaten track' setting, you are sure to feel relaxed and ready for your holiday.
This 'all on one level' property offers a real sense of luxury, with each sumptuous bedroom boasting its own en suite. The living space is open plan and has doors out to your own private patio; a fantastic spot to enjoy an evening glass of fizz.
Situated within easy reach of the wonders of the Jurassic Coast and the three beautiful counties of Somerset, Dorset and Devon, you are spoilt for choice in this delightful area. The Cowshed provides an excellent base to explore and coming back to this cottage at the end of a day's adventures will be the icing on the cake.
Whilst The Cowshed is totally separate and private, it is possible to integrate this delightful accommodation with two other barn conversions on site - Wreath Farmhouse (4445) and The Apple Press (4744). If booked together, these properties (all part of Wreath Farm) sleep 18 + 3 cots. The owners live in another barn conversion on site and are on hand if you need them but all of the properties have a good degree of privacy from each other.
The lane leading to the farmstead is very quiet, with only a few other properties dotted along it and is lovely to stroll along. Another peaceful walk just half a mile away is the Chard Nature Reserve and in the other direction at Cricket St Thomas, there are beautiful lakeside walks around the old manor house, which is now a hotel. You are also on the doorstep of the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which runs along the Devon/Somerset border.
Following the coast to the west, through east Devon from Lyme Regis, you will enjoy a chain of little fishing villages and seaside towns, from Beer and Branscombe to Sidmouth and Budleigh Salterton. Each has its own delightful character and tradition. For more dramatic coastal scenery, head to West Bay and see the infamous golden cliffs.
Within easy reach of Chard are four south Somerset National Trust properties to visit - Montacute, Tintinhull, Lytes Cary and Barrington Court. Forde Abbey is also only a few minutes away over the border in Dorset and offers a beautiful setting on the River Axe and stunning gardens. Many famous walking trails converge around the villages to the south of Wreath, including the Jubilee Trail, Monarch's Way, the Wessex Ridgeway, the Liberty Trail and the South West Coast Path.
