Zip and linkCute as a button, Shell Cottage is a delightful stone-built cottage situated in the pretty Cornish village of Grampound. Beautifully and sympathetically restored, the end of terrace cottage has a lovely outside space for al fresco dining and a light and airy kitchen decorated in relaxing muted tones. The sitting-room has two comfy sofas and a lovely window seat where you can sit with a mug of tea and gaze out onto the pretty terrace. On the first floor, both bedrooms are prettily furnished in soft white shades and luxury bedding. Bedroom one has a super-comfy double bed and bedroom two has twin beds that can be made up as a super-king making this cottage ideal for either a family group or friends. The shower-room sits in-between the two.
Just 100 yards away from Shell Cottage, Ham Field is a community area donated to the village with a barbecue area, wild-flower meadow and pond. You are welcome to explore the area which is just down the road.
Shell Cottage dates back to the early 18th Century and formed part of the Old Queens Head Inn which for many years was the main coaching inn for stagecoaches travelling between Torpoint and Falmouth. The cottage is situated near the main road however, as with all traditionally built cottages, the walls are super thick making summertime blissfully cool inside and nicely insulated against the cold in winter. Shell Cottage is an ideal place for a short break or weeklong stay at any time of year.
Perfectly situated in the heart of the county, this is the ideal place to stay for exploring all Cornwall has to offer. The picture-perfect Roseland peninsula (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, now known as National Landscapes) is only a short drive away and offers secluded beaches, hidden coves and a fabulous undulating stretch of the coast path. St Mawes has a fabulous selection of shops and eateries, visit the bustling harbour where you can sit and enjoy an ice cream whilst watching yachts bobbing in the estuary, or perhaps take the ferry over the water to the cosmopolitan town of Falmouth with it fabulous National Maritime Museum. Portscatho, further round the peninsula from St Mawes, is a picturesque village packed with everything you need for a great holiday and a visit to the Hidden Hut is a must. If you're looking for a day out with a difference try the Eden Project with its magnificent biomes or perhaps The Lost Gardens of Heligan, a historic garden left to ruin since the outbreak of World War 1, discovered by chance and restored to its former glory. Charlestown with its superb Georgian harbour and home to a fleet of square rigger ships should be on your list, and Ross Poldark would attest to that!
Wherever you choose to explore on your Cornish adventure, you will look forward to returning to Shell Cottage.
