Zip and linkJust around the river bend near the head of the River Kennal is a fabulous home created by shipwrights. Nestled in a small tidal canal, which fills with water at the top of spring tides every other week, it is easy to let the day drift away in this lovely location just as the tide ebbs and flows. Set within two acres of land with direct river access to the tidal upper reaches of the river for paddle boarding or kayaking. It really is a dreamy location.
Amble down the gangway and into the light and airy barge; it has lovely open plan living space with a large galley which has everything you might need to prep a delicious meal. The hard-wearing kitchen surfaces are recycled Falmouth docks pilings and have been beautifully varnished. The captain's dining-table has large comfortable chairs with snuggly sheepskin to sink into, sit back and relax with a glass of red whilst reading your favourite book. The corner sofa provides a cosy nook to sit, through the double glass doors look out to steps made from large bulks of docks timber which echo the historical past of the quay. With the doors open you can walk across the hull door and up the timber steps to the garden with your yoga mat, book or glass of wine.
The two bedrooms (called cabins on a boat) are set at each end of the barge - the main bedroom has a stunning bed where you can look out over the garden and hear the birdsong, it also has an en suite shower-room (called heads on a boat) and a separate WC. The second bedroom has a V-shaped king-size bed which can also be set up as twins depending on your party. There is also a second shower-room to ensure that you do not need to share.
The internet at Mistery 2 can be a little temperamental and is best in the day if you want to carry out any research for your adventures, and the owners have a vast library of DVDs to choose from with some great classics.
Mark and Loz, creators of the barge Mistery 2, have put their heart and soul into the creation of this wonderful place, recycling materials to create a unique and special place. From doors made of Hull City library panels to teak decking from old ships this barge is rich in history. The owners of Mistery 2 want to ensure you have a truly relaxing and memorable stay aboard their barge, they will pop along to welcome you and to explain the quirky charms of the barge, you might also see them from time to time when they just pop along to water their poly tunnel and are of course willing to give a guided tour if you wish, but it is set up so you will not be disturbed. There is one other neighbouring boat accessed by the path at the back of the lawn with its own private garden and the owner's workshop, but we ensure they will not disturb you during your stay.
The barge sits alongside her own quay dating back to 1720 and was connected to the famous Perran foundry which exported castings around the world and is part of an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Set close to the main road, this really is the ideal location to use as your base for your adventures. The owners have ensured privacy; the road, the ancient trees and a tall fence block ensure this tranquil spot is hidden so you can enjoy listening to birdsong and the rustling of the rushes.
The outside space at Mistery 2 is just fabulous, the large compass fire-pit is great to sit around and chat for hours, and there is an outside sound system if you fancy a dance too. There are many hidden places to sit and watch the world pass you by throughout the two acres - you can sit, breathe and relax. There is direct water access to the River Kennall, be aware it is tidal so please do check the tides and allow enough time for your return, pinned to the mast is a tide table. The banks are lovely to explore and perhaps take a picnic or paddle down to the Pandora Inn for a waterside lunch.
Falmouth is only a 15 minute drive away with plenty of eateries, boutique shops and activities, and there's a pub just across the road and The Royal Oak, which is known for its good food, is just a 15 minute very pleasant walk away in Perranwell village. There are also public slipways in both Mylor Harbour and Falmouth if you want to bring a boat - there is plenty of space to store it for the week in the garden of your holiday property.
