TwinNestled in the most unique, tranquil and breathtakingly beautiful setting (in an old quarry, no less!), Tresahor Lodge is the perfect getaway for couples and families alike, within easy reach of all that this stunning part of Cornwall has to offer. Your journey into a magical place begins; trundle up the steep unmade lane, curving past granite walls and old oaks to reach your destination.
Let's start with the lodge itself, charming and comfortable with all of your holiday needs catered for. Steps lead up into the open plan living-room, complete with a comfy sitting-area for snuggling up in front of the TV of an evening, a dining-area with seating for four and a well-equipped kitchen, including a gas cooker, fridge, freezer, kettle and toaster - all you could need to rustle up a scrumptious supper. A small hallway leads off the living area towards the back of the lodge to the shower-room and two bedrooms - one with small single beds, TV and DVD player, the other with a double bed and en suite cloakroom. In turn, double doors at the front lead out onto the deck - the ideal spot for your morning coffee whilst taking in the glorious outlook.
Outside, the remarkable surroundings are steeped in history - this former granite quarry was last used in 1906 (it is said that the site gained a reputation for having some of the best granite in the area and is even rumoured that it provided supplies for the second build of the London Bridge) - the current owner has lived on site for 30 years and has undertaken the most terrific task of turning the area into the special spot that it is today.
The lake is the star of the show - 20 foot deep with super fun pedalos for you to use (the life jackets must be donned for your time on the water please, children must be supervised at all times and swimming is strictly not permitted), a 'beach' complete with striped deckchairs and the opportunity to try your hand at fishing. You can dine al fresco at the table and seating overlooking the lake - cleverly created from an old mill stone - after cooking up a feast in the fabulous barbecue hut, a great place for toasting marshmallows too.
If you can bear to tear yourselves away (and who would blame you if you can't!), there is so much to see and do nearby. The lovely local village of Constantine may be small in size but it's certainly not in offerings - there is a convenience store, general store (with an off-licence offering more than 100 different whiskies, a plethora of gin and more!), mobile Post Office (opening times may vary) and craft gallery with local Information Centre.
There are many wonderful walks around the spectacular scenery and estuaries of the gorgeous Helford River (be sure to explore the pretty circular walk at Bosahan Woods, filled with bluebells in season, and the scenic walk to Scott's Quay on the edge of the river), and the craggy coves and magnificent sites of the Lizard peninsula are also with easy reach.
If you fancy dining out, there are some great eateries in the surrounding villages. For starters, the renowned Trengilly Wartha pub serves delicious food and is just a ten-minute drive away, as is the popular cafe at Potager Garden. If it's a takeaway you're after, you will find a pizza van in Constantine on a Saturday evening and a fish and chip van in the nearby village of Gweek on a Wednesday evening (there is also a good pub and a post office here). If you venture a little further into the maritime town of Falmouth (complete with some brilliant beaches) or up to the Cathedral City of Truro, you will indeed be spoilt for choice.
