Sidbury is a delightful unspoilt village just three miles inland from Sidmouth on the wonderful east Devon Jurassic Coast. This tranquil spot is a perfect holiday base for exploring Devon and Dorset, and St Giles Cottage is also a wonderful bolthole if you just want to switch off and relax.

This lovely period cottage is everything a traditional country cottage should be. With character, a very pretty little cottage garden and the sound of the river across the little lane, the property is tucked away on the edge of this historic village. Turning cottage stairs lead from a very spacious sitting/dining-room, with inglenook fireplace and wood-burner, to the three bedrooms – one is en suite – and family bathroom upstairs.

East Devon has so much to offer that it is often overlooked on the great trek down to south Devon and Cornwall. The coastline is home to a string of little fishing villages and towns such as Branscombe, Beer, Sidmouth and Budleigh Salterton; each with their own character, some very tiny with fishing boats drawn up onto the beaches and some with plenty of shops to browse in and cafes to enjoy after strolling along their promenades. You will find a mixture of pebbles and sand on the beaches here but all are lovely whatever the time of year.

There are clifftop walks too, making up this section of the South West Coast Path. The countryside is just as unspoilt and there are many interesting market towns such as Honiton (famous for its array of antiques shops), Ottery St Mary (which is renowned for the flaming tar barrels festival) and Axminster where you will find the River Cottage Canteen. Lyme Regis on the Devon/Dorset border is not far at all.
