Meadowgate is Kirstie Allsopp’s beautiful ‘Homemade Home’.

Found in total seclusion minutes from Welcombe Mouth, one of the most stunning beaches on the north coast, Meadowgate sits at the base of Welcombe’s deep valley. The social rooms are accessed from the elegant slate and tiled hallway. The comfortable sitting-room boasts an open fire and large sofas encourage you to sit and read that long-promised book. Children will love the second sitting-room, filled with Kirstie’s inspired home-made crafts.

Throughout the house the passion Kirstie put into restoring and furnishing Meadowgate is ever-present. Large gold letters spelling out ‘WOW’ in the kitchen/dining-room say it all; this is the heart of the house, the Aga perfect for conjuring up mouthwatering feasts and a warming backdrop to every mealtime. From Vanessa Arbuthnott fabrics, to Kirstie’s own gold and black wallpaper in the downstairs wash-room and the eclectic mix of furniture, Kirstie’s unique style is repeated throughout.

Upstairs are three double bedrooms, a twin room and a really special twin bunk-room for four children. The Vi-spring beds have luxurious cotton bedding and the main bedroom has a wonderful roll-top bath for you to indulge and soak up the peace and quiet of the surrounding countryside!

The sixth bedroom is separate from the main house and sits above the games-room, where children young and old will have great fun playing table-tennis and table-football. Outside, basking in sunshine all day, Meadowgate’s landscaped garden will be ideal for barbecues, games and generally relaxing.

For those keen to explore, the National Trust protects the valley which offers endless hours of exploration, and just up the road there is a great pub called the Old Smithy Inn. Enchanting Meadowgate inspired Kirstie to fill it with love, and she feels confident that guests will enjoy this unique and delightful Devonshire bolthole just as much as she does herself.
