For a family friendly day out in Cornwall, head to Nancarrow Farm from 5th to 7th April to celebrate the arrival of spring with crafts, activities and stalls. You might even see a few lambs.
A two-day event filled with plenty of springtime fun, the Spring Gathering was set to be a lovely day out. I knew Nancarrow had invited our friends at Cornish Food Box alongside a whole host of other local companies and producers to add to the festivities.
I arrived to a bustling farm with families moving from one space to another. Having been here before for a feast night, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the feeling of the day. The itinerary was simple but had a lot of variety and the vibe of the day was totally different to being there in the evening.
There were activities running at set times throughout the day, like lamb feeding, guided walks and craft demonstrations. Other activities had been set up at stations across the venue so you could head there at any point in the day. In the barn you could try welly wanging, painting with vegetables and guess the vegetable. By the lambs (the main place that I wanted to be, they were so adorable), you could add a ribbon to the spring bunting to create a decoration for feast nights or make a farm animal out of clay.
There was so much to do that you could easily keep a group of children entertained for the day. The event was really family friendly with plenty of room for kids to feel like they had an element of freedom while still staying in sight of parents.
Let’s not forget the signature of Nancarrow: the food. A selection of dishes were being cooked on the outside grill for lunch, there were cakes and doughnuts and lots of drinks options available across the farm too. Feast tables were laid out in the evenings too and kicked off the season for the team at Nancarrow in real spring style, it made me crave a warm summer evening spent with friends around their tables.
