Steeped in history and heritage, we're pleased to introduce Bridge House. Nestled in the heart of the highly favoured Exe valley village of Thorverton, this beautiful, thatched cottage which dates back to the 1700s has been lovingly refurbished to offer a fabulous holiday home for all generations.
Bridge House occupies one of the village's most scenic locations. Perched overlooking the beautifully kept village green and river, sitting with a good book lazing the day away in this beautiful spot is a real pleasure.
The village of Thorverton itself is a real charm. With two fabulous pubs/restaurants to choose from, Exe Valley Farm Shop and Cafe within a mile from the village centre, perfect for keeping you stocked up, to the beautiful church which is truly the heart of this charming village. Not forgetting that Thorverton is surrounded by endless unspoilt countryside, perfect for those long summer dog walks, or perhaps you'd rather a stroll along River Exe, which is to the west, whichever route you head off in, you are in for a treat.
You really are spoilt for choice when it comes to nearby hot spots and attractions. From watching horse drawn narrowboats at Tiverton, strolling around the beautiful grounds of Killerton House to more action and adventure for the younger ones in the form of Crealy Adventure Park and Diggerland which are both under nine miles away, not forgetting the sandy beach at Exmouth or Dawlish for that day of building sandcastles and relaxing in the sun. There really is something for everyone.
Returning to Bridge House after a day of adventure is such a pleasure. Whether it's whipping up a feast in the spacious kitchen, taking time out to enjoy a good book in the peaceful conservatory, or simply snuggling up in the sitting-room in front of the coal-effect gas fire before heading up to bed, Bridge House caters for your every need.
Heading upstairs you will find four bedrooms to choose from. Two large single bedrooms, a cosy double bedroom and the large king-size bedroom with a splendid en suite. The family bathroom is home to a large bath with fitted shower, soaking in a bubble bath is the perfect way to relax and unwind following a full day of fun and adventure, ready for the next!
The courtyard, which is yet to be developed, offers a large space for multiple cars and a great area to let your four-legged friends stretch their legs. There is also a picnic table available should you wish to sit outside and enjoy your morning coffee or that all important sundowner. An array of brick built barns line one side of the yard, with open fronted timber barns along a further two sides. This is typical of a Devon farm collecting yard and has some interesting original features which the owners are keen to protect and will form an integral part of their plans to develop this historic yard area.
With all the activity and nearby hotspots, it is easy to over look at day at the beach. The Devon coast boasts some of the most glorious beaches and coves in the country, it would be a shame not to sample a few. Exmouth and Dawlish are both fabulous seaside towns, offering all the attractions and amenities you would expect from such vibrant coastal locations. Both offering glorious sandy beaches which stretch on for miles. If a day out on the beach is in the plan, you will get to either of these beaches in under an hour, which is travel time well spent.
Walking and exploring in this beautiful area are a must. A short car drive (circa 45 minutes) will find you in the heart of either Dartmoor National Park or alternatively, Exmoor National Park. Both boasting the most magical sights, such as the endless open moorlands with the wild ponies roaming, the babbling streams and rivers, perfect for a paddle on a sunny day, to the impressive tors carved out of granite on Dartmoor; these really do need to be seen to be believed. Both National Parks make for the perfect day out cycling, walking, or simply enjoying a picnic lunch whilst being immersed in such natural beauty.
Or perhaps a day out shopping and fine dining is on the agenda, if so, the ancient city of Exeter is only seven miles away and offers an array of restaurants, cocktail bars, bars, designer shops and much more. There is however much more to this beautiful city. Pre-dating the arrival of the romans in AD 50, Exeter is steeped in history and historic sites, such as the iconic underground passages, the glorious cathedral to the Medieval Bridge to name a few.
Whichever direction you head in, and whatever activity takes your fancy, you are guaranteed to be spoilt for choice in this wonderful part of Devon.
