KingSitting neatly at the top of a hamlet of traditional Cornish cottages, Greenshanks overlooks Restronguet Creek in one of the most unspoilt locations in the south west of England. Point is a beautiful piece of Cornish paradise with its own public quay and slipway only a three minute walk from your doorstep, making this an ideal destination for keen canoeists and SUP boarders. The garden provides safe storage for such water vessels. A fine base for birdwatchers, Greenshanks sits on a creek which is a hotbed for waterbirds in particular. Autumn is excellent for migrant species and ospreys spend several weeks here each year. Experience sublime escapism in this lovely example of a self-catering sanctuary.
As you enter through the stained glass door, earthy hues complement the rich and organic beauty of the surroundings. Greenshanks Cottage is mostly spread across the ground floor, (there are multiple steps throughout this floor), where you will find a striking dining-room with views over the velvet green to the estuary. The thoughtful owners have included lovely features such as a tidal clock and wall map of the area to inspire your explorations over a holiday breakfast feast, setting you up for the adventures ahead.
Returning from your daily travels, enter through the white gate complete with stained glass, and kick off your walking boats or beach sandals next to the handy outside wash off area. Head on into Greenshanks through its huge boot/utility-room which has plenty of space to store your bicycle or snorkelling gear (there are three steps to the storage space). Whip up a light supper in the well-equipped kitchen before settling down for the evening by the wood-burner in the cosy sitting-room, ideal for keeping you toasty during the cooler months. Please note, there are one or two steps to access each room.
Wash away the salt from the sea in the lovely shower-room before heading across the hall where you will find bedroom one, (there are unique steps of variable depth and angles as you pass, take great care), sympathetically presented and retaining many of its traditional features, exemplifying the craftmanship of this beautiful little bolthole. Forget the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life, snuggle up in the luxury linen and enjoy a restful slumber in the king-size bed.
Take care on the steps leading to bedroom two as they are very steep and narrow, as is common in a traditional waterside Cornish cottage. The ascent rewards you with a stunning room to rest and relax, another example of country living at its finest. Open the sash windows and listen to the birdsong as you enjoy your morning coffee in the king-size bed. Point is a marvellous location for the bird watcher as many flock to this quiet waterside location, so bring your binoculars or borrow the cottage's set and see what species you can spot!
Greenshanks boasts its own private courtyard which extends summer into spring and autumn with its sheltered position. An abundance of sub-tropical foliage thrives here and shelters you from the rays of the sun or the chill of the wind making this a wonderful and comfortable spot for most of the year. If you can peel yourself away from the comfort of the interior, enjoy an al fresco meal or evening aperitif below the towering bamboo and echiums, after a delightful day exploring the charms of this special location.
Babes in arms under six months old and a medium-sized well-behaved dog (please note that dogs are not allowed upstairs or on the beds/soft furnishings) are welcome at Greenshanks Cottage. There is parking for one small car on the gravelled area outside the cottage, however if this space is not large enough for your vehicle alternative parking can be found on the road.
Restronguet Creek is an idyllic spot on the Fal Estuary, perfect for wildlife lovers, walkers and anyone seeking peace and tranquility in a waterside hamlet, indeed you may decide never to take the car and just enjoy your beautiful surroundings. If you do decide to travel further afield, the delights of Cornwall are waiting to be discovered. Point is situated a short drive from the King Harry Ferry, which carries you over to the stunning Roseland peninsula. The maritime town of Falmouth has a great selection of eclectic shops, boutiques and cafes, and a fabulous maritime museum the whole family will enjoy. A passenger ferry leaves the harbourside from here over the Carrick Roads to St Mawes on the Roseland and the lesser-known areas such as Place and Flushing. Further west and the dramatic Lizard peninsula awaits. Head for Kynance Cove, a spectacular headland with stunning views, or perhaps Lizard Point lighthouse the most southerly point in England (and a great place to sample a Cornish cream tea). However you plan to spend your blissful holiday days, Greenshanks Cottage is the perfect holiday home for all your Cornish adventures.
