Wake up to the most incredible views at this charming retreat perched on the edge of the beautiful 800 acre Mount Edgcumbe Country Park - they are breathtaking. Stretching across country meadows over the river and out to sea, with the maritime city of Plymouth beyond and glimpses of Dartmoor in the distance, it is quite a spectacle, so switch off, tune out and wallow in the wonderful world that surrounds you.

Stay close to camp relaxing with a good book, enjoying an afternoon kip, running barefoot through the grass, making daisy chains, or watching the sheep who sometimes graze in the meadow ahead, well it is a shepherd's hut after all! As day turns to dusk, keep toes toasty warm by the fire-pit and watch the view become even more magical as the lights of the city create a sparkling backdrop mirrored by the starry sky above - can it get any better than this!

Venture further into the park to explore the historic house and Grade I Listed gardens, artisan shops and the network of trails that wind their way around the parkland, best discovered on an all-terrain Segway - it's great fun! Joining the alpacas for a walk will delight younger members, as will the miniature railway and for some fun on the water there's paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing and even wild swimming to thrill. Need to refuel, The Orangery restaurant and the little cafe in the stables serve up some wholesome treats and just off the estate The Canteen at Maker is popular with locals and visitors alike.

Befitting of its historic setting, Lynher Hut, named after the river it overlooks, has a real charm of bygone days, crafted in a timeless, traditional style for the ultimate inside-outside experience with modern day comforts. The ingenious space features charming bunk-beds for younger members and a fold down double bed with a proper mattress that when put back to bed itself, against the wall, reveals a dining-table and comfy bench seats. And if the weather is less-than-perfect, the little wood-burner makes sure you are super warm and cosy so snuggle up under those covers. Pop outside to the nifty little kitchen area that sits behind the hut, all under cover, with a gas hob and grill. Please note there is no fridge within the exterior kitchen, but an ice-box is provided. There are fresh ice packs available for collection from the office so you can keep everything nice and cool during your stay. When it's time for a shower or you need to spend a penny the shared shower block is a little stroll across the meadow (150 yards). Babes in arms under the age of six months are welcome at Lynher Hut.

Sharing this idyllic site is its sister hut Tamar Hut (4754), ideal if you have friends who want to holiday with you, but also set away from the other and screened for added privacy.

With so much right on your doorstep there is little need to leave the estate but if you should fancy a change of scene this so called 'forgotten corner' of Cornwall is quite magical. Being designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the scenery and coastline is quite spectacular so don't forget those walking boots.

Wander the narrow streets through the utterly charming twinned villages of Kingsand and Cawsand and the large stretch of sandy beach along Whitsand Bay is quite glorious. The foot ferry from either Cremyll or Cawsand takes you across the water to Plymouth, a city steeped in maritime history, stopping off at the city's latest hotspot The Royal William Yard before making the journey back across the water.
