DoubleDemelza is an absolute dream. Nestled on the edge of a meadow, surrounded by rolling Cornish countryside, with views across an ever-changing pasture, open farmland and woodland, this is a glorious romantic retreat for two, where you can enjoy time together and take things at a much gentler pace. Chill out with a good book on the bench, spot wildlife and birds who stop by to entertain you or sit back, close your eyes and do nothing but listen to the sounds of the countryside that surround you. From the early morning birdsong, rustling trees, horses neighing or the odd tractor as it trundles up and down the lane.
If this little pocket of rural perfection isn't tempting enough, step inside the hobbit-style lodge and immerse yourself in the most charming interiors that offer a good dose of luxury along the way. Decorated throughout in relaxing shades of yellow and grey, with delightful bumble bee accessories, the pretty little kitchen comes complete with an electric oven, 2 ring hob, fridge and microwave and there's a bijou dining-area for romantic mealtimes. The cosy living space invites you to hunker down on the L-shaped sofa, which takes pride of place in front of the door so that you can really make the most of the view. Of course there's a super stylish shower-room and when it's time for bed, you are sure to have nothing but sweet dreams of the delights of your day as you are tucked up in your comfy double bed.
Outside a large terraced area is the perfect spot for dining in the best of the Cornish sunshine or a sunset barbecue with a frequent dip in the hot tub for good measure. You won't have a better evening than one spent with a warming mug of hot chocolate around the fire-pit, toasting marshmallows along the way as you watch the day turn to night and the stars start to appear in the night sky above - it really is quite magical.
I'm staying put, but for those who want to explore you have so much on your doorstep so we can understand if you want to get out and about. Despite its rural setting, the coast is only a short drive away, whether you are off to the trendy sailing town of Fowey or the charming fishing village of Polperro. In Charlestown you can marvel at the tall ships docked in the harbour or join a fishing trip from Looe and fire up the barbie on your return to cook up your catch. The nearby town of Lostwithiel known locally as the 'antiques capital of Cornwall', it is a dear little town set on the river with a small selection of shops, places to eat and drink and the ancient Restormel Castle (English Heritage) best viewed from the cafe at the Duchy Nursery whilst indulging in one of their delightful treats. The network of cycling trails at Lanhydrock and Cardinham Woods will appeal to cyclists of all abilities and whilst at Lanhydrock take some time out to visit the historic house and gardens.
