Blackberry Jack's Wagon
4222 is no longer with usIf you were looking for cottages like Blackberry Jack's Wagon, how about trying these:
Situated just outside the delightful hamlet of Mawla, only two miles from Porthtowan's sandy beach, is Blackberry Jack's Wagon, a genuine and utterly charming former steam-engine driver's wagon. Sat in a quiet and pretty orchard, with fields, walks and Cornish scenery on the doorstep, this idyllic retreat offers the ultimate glamping experience.
The parking area leads into the beautiful meadow and past the lovely apple trees to the spot where Blackberry Jack's Wagon sits proud. A few steps take you up to the decked area and entrance into this wonderful wagon. Inside, you'll find a bespoke double bed, plentiful storage (there are handy cupboards under the bed as well as a built-in corner wardrobe), wall-mounted TV/DVD player, fold-down table and two chairs - why not take these out onto the delightful deck and enjoy a coffee whilst watching the resident donkeys grazing in the fields opposite, taking in the peace and tranquility that this little bolthole provides - bliss!
Blackberry Jack's Wagon is fondly named after the owners' steam engine that used to pull it along from place to place - the wagon itself was used as the driver's accommodation. Back then, they did have to literally 'leave the kitchen sink at home' but that's certainly not the case now! A short hop, skip and jump away is a solid little cabin, housing a fitted kitchen (complete with 2-ring hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle and even a washing machine!), sweet little dining area and good-sized shower-room. At the other end of the cabin, accessed from outside, is a storage room with plenty of space for bikes and surf boards etc. A barbecue and outside furniture are provided too - perfect for cooking and dining al fresco on a summer's day.
Located within the grounds of the owners' home but positioned to ensure privacy, this cute little wagon is the perfect place from which to explore the north coast of Cornwall. Porthtowan is a very short drive away and, after a relaxing day on this gorgeous beach, why not head to the beachside Blue Bar - a great spot to enjoy a chilled glass of wine. There is also a brilliant beach cafe, selling delicious home-cooked food, plus a great little surf shop that offers lessons and can kit you out with boards and wetsuits. Further along the coast you'll discover St Agnes, which is rapidly becoming 'the' place to visit and has everything you could possibly need, with shops, galleries, funky cafes, vibrant bistros and trendy bars.
If you're a keen cyclist, why not join the Mineral Tramway cycle path, which is a few minutes down the road. Many of the old tramways have been converted into cycle paths and the one nearest to Blackberry Jack's Wagon takes you to either Portreath or further afield to Devoran (bikes can be hired from nearby Elm Farm Cycle Hire). For supplies, including yummy barbecue boxes, the award winning Etherington Farm Shop is within easy reach or, if you don't feel like cooking, the friendly local pub, The Treleigh Arms, is around two miles away.
