The Old Post Office
2227 is no longer with usIf you were looking for cottages like The Old Post Office, how about trying these:
In the picturesque village of Monksilver on the edge of Exmoor, this spacious 15th Century Grade II Listed detached thatched cottage has been painstakingly restored to an exceptional standard. Steeped in medieval history, it was first a priest’s house, later extended by a wealthy merchant and latterly a thriving post office. The shop window is still a feature, the other lattice-paned mullioned windows faithful copies of the originals. Inside, centuries-old panelling and roof trusses exude character, the original wooden turret staircase (please take care) winding up to the former priest’s private chamber with its magnificent four-poster bed. A separate carpeted staircase leads to three more beautifully furnished bedrooms, the master with another imposing four-poster and an en suite cleverly tucked beneath the eaves. Downstairs is a seamless blend of original and modern, the large inviting kitchen exceedingly well-equipped and the spacious sitting/dining-room, snug and garden-room each with a welcoming wood-burner. The pretty enclosed private garden includes a little brick terrace beside the gurgling stream (please take care with children as the Listed retaining wall is low). Should the outside world beckon, the spectacular surrounding countryside awaits exploration, and the excellent village pub is just down the road!
