Set in a pretty cobbled courtyard, Poachers Cottage is a delight.
John's Deli has shops and cafes in both Appledore and Instow. There are also some excellent pubs and little galleries to browse in.
The local pub is just down the road.
Across the estuary, reached by a lovely seasonal passenger ferry, is Instow, where there are wide sandy beaches at low and high tide.
A few hundred yards away you can stroll down the slipway at low tide for a sandy stretch of beach for your four-legged friend and children to enjoy.
Appledore is a traditional old fishing village with a wonderful network of little lanes and passageways to explore.
Catch the ferry from Bideford quay for a day out to Lundy Island.
North Devon's beaches are as good as any in Cornwall for surfing! Endless stretches of golden sand and rolling waves. This is Saunton Sands.
Charming Clovelly is a short car journey away.
Clovelly is a photographer's dream.

Not that we are tv fans and dont like wasting precious time , but for someone who is keen , perhaps tv channels were a bit limited, unless we did not understand the netflix instructiions which we did not manage to get as per instructions.

There's an Amazon Fire Stick at Poachers Cottage which provides lots of choice for guests.It seems that the TV had been inadvertently switched over to the terrestrial channels so some clearer instructions will be provided to prevent any further confusion - thanks for letting us know! Poachers cottage is a really lovely comfortable cosy place to stay. It’s in an ideal location with a pub and the sea just a few steps from the front door. It was extremely clean and had everything you would need. Our dog loved all of the walks and it was so nice not to have to use the car. We definitely hope to stay again soon. The only downside are the stairs, which were absolutely fine for us but if you were elderly or had mobility problems then, unfortunately, it’s not for you....
