John's Deli has shops and cafes in both Appledore and Instow. There are also some excellent pubs and little galleries to browse in.
The local pub is just down the road.
Across the estuary, reached by a lovely seasonal passenger ferry, is Instow, where there are wide sandy beaches at low and high tide.
A few hundred yards away you can stroll down the slipway at low tide for a sandy stretch of beach for your four-legged friend and children to enjoy.
Appledore is a traditional old fishing village with a wonderful network of little lanes and passageways to explore.
Catch the ferry from Bideford quay for a day out to Lundy Island.
North Devon's beaches are as good as any in Cornwall for surfing! Endless stretches of golden sand and rolling waves. This is Saunton Sands.
Charming Clovelly is a short car journey away.
Clovelly is a photographer's dream.

Poachers cottage is a really lovely comfortable cosy place to stay. It’s in an ideal location with a pub and the sea just a few steps from the front door. It was extremely clean and had everything you would need. Our dog loved all of the walks and it was so nice not to have to use the car. We definitely hope to stay again soon. The only downside are the stairs, which were absolutely fine for us but if you were elderly or had mobility problems then, unfortunately, it’s not for you....

Property was very clean on arrival and well-equipped. Nice touch to be greeted with wine, biscuits and milk. Highly recommended. Fantastic location and very friendly neighbours. Overall excellent!

A really nice cosy and comfortable cottage in a fabulous location! Appledore is a great destination for a quiet break but with enough choice of quality places to eat and drink. We will almost certainly be returning to Poachers Cottage in the future.
