Fun, sun and entertainment. Home to numerous events throughout the year, Weston-Super-Mare has a lively beach where there is always something going on. Soak up the sunshine on the beach or try your hand at a new activity. There are plenty of shops, cafes and facilities all along the huge seafront, as well as lots of amusements and arcades. Also known as Weston-Super-Mud, the beach has the second highest tidal range in the world, so no walking out onto the mud!

An excellent walk on the hills for people and dogs for a view over the Somerset countryside. Take water for your dog if the day is warm as it there is little shade on the way up and it can get hot.

Nestled at the foot of the Mendip Hills, Axbridge is a lovely example of an ancient English market town, complete with a medieval square featuring well-preserved half-timbered period buildings. Pottering around the streets of Axbridge you’ll find plenty of friendly little cafes, galleries and unique shops to browse. Hop in the car and within a short drive you’ll be in the heart of the Mendips, a walker’s wonderland, whilst the stunning Cheddar Gorge, with its eerie caves and fascinating geology, is just a couple of miles down the road.

Bishop Palace Gardens and Wells

These are just the most beautiful gardens to wander around, even if you are not an avid garden enthusiast! The bubbling springs feeding the wells and river, the tranquility, the ramparts and the setting adjacent to the Bishops Palace, plus the imaginative planting make it a great place to visit any time of the year - November for us. Right in the centre of Wells too, so lots to explore.

A great place to visit

A beautiful garden to walk around with great views of the cathedral.
Wells is a lovely small city to spend the day in.

Make sure you go to the cathedral and Vicars Close as well.

Meet the Cheddar Man, Britain's oldest complete skeleton. Learn the ancient skills of flint-knapping and fire-lighting from hunter-gatherers at the Museum of Prehistory. Embark on the fantasy world Crystal Quest. See cannibal remains and jaw-dropping stalactite and stalagmite formations. Beginner sessions in caving, climbing and abseiling, nature walks and open-top bus tours of Britain's biggest gorge. Leave plenty of time to explore here.

Why not take a walk up this iconic, legendary Tor? Well worth the effort, you will have spectacular views across 3 counties. Dogs must be on a lead and there are no public conveniences.

Breathtaking (!)

It's well worth the initially steep climb up the tor for the amazing panoramic views from the summit - we parked in Glastonbury itself, walked up through the town and past the Chalice Well to tackle the steepest slope first, which meant an easier walk down the 'back' of the tor and a stroll through countryside to get back to the top of the town. Plenty of tea shops and cafes to refuel at when you get back!

A community project has been set up to develop the old railway line from Clevedon to Cranmore. At the moment only the section from Yatton to Cheddar is fully operational with other sections in the planning stages. Most of the route is off road with a lovely cafe at Yatton.

Strawberry Line Cycle Trail

Beautiful mainly off road route from Cheddar to Yatton - about 9 miles one way so 18 return. We cycled from Cherry May farm so about a 40 mile round trip. The Strawberry line cafe at Yatton Station is wonderful for lunch.
