SingleCome and immerse yourself in the charm of Fowey with a well-deserved break at Iva Cottage. Nestled on an elevated terrace, it is the shortest of strolls from your holiday door, down the hill to the waterfront and the heart of this vibrant town and sailors' paradise.
Lovingly restored and immaculately presented, boutique-style interiors create a wonderful sanctuary that will delight you, your family and friends, and not forgetting your pampered pup.
Laid back living is the order of the day in the open plan sitting/dining-room, an oasis of calm and tranquility, where the wood-burner effect gas stove creates the very warmest of welcomes on those out-of-season breaks. It's the place to reconnect playing traditional board games, chilling with a good book, catching a family favourite movie or simply having a good natter. The sparkling white kitchen is filled with all that you need to rustle up feasts and snacks for your loved ones but with such a plethora of cool cafes, award-winning restaurants, trendy bistros and traditional pubs right on your doorstep, we are sure that eating out will most definitely be on the agenda! From the kitchen you can step out to the little sheltered courtyard, a spot to enjoy that all-important wake-me up cuppa, to set yourself up for the day.
When it's time to snooze, ascend the stairs where the three bedrooms await. All simply yet stylishly furnished, creating the most restful of spaces to ensure a good night's sleep.
Whether you are a seasoned visitor or it's your first visit, Fowey is set to impress. Set in a Natural Landscape (previously known as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) it is a delightfully vibrant town with charming cottages, narrow streets and all kinds of boats and yachts bobbing on their moorings. Along with the great choices of places to eat and drink, the streets are full of art galleries, clothing and interiors shops, delis and fresh produce. The town puts on a full events calendar with regatta weeks, the Fowey Festival of Words and Music, Fowey River Big Gig and Barbecue weekend and Christmas markets, making it a year round destination.
This is a great base for those who don't want to do much driving, with all the town's facilities on hand and ferries across to Polruan, Mevagissey and Bodinnick. You can walk to the sandy beach at Readymoney Cove, and join the locals with some open water swimming and nearby the golden sands at Par are vast, and being dog-friendly all year are sure to become a firm favourite with your four-legged guests.
Coming later in 2025, the owner is developing another garden space at the back of the cottage. Accessed via a set of steps (already in place) from the courtyard, this will provide a decking area with views of the estuary and beyond.
There is no doubt that the best way to explore the area is by foot, so pop on those walking boots and discover coastal and woodland walks and trails that will delight. The circular Hall Walk is a great challenge, winding its way up the estuary to Pont and includes two ferry rides across the estuary.
If you want to venture a little further afield, there is much to tempt you. Garden enthusiasts will enjoy time spent at the world-renowned Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan, or wandering the gardens and parkland at Lanhydrock Estate (National Trust) and also taking time to visit the historic house. If cycling is your preferred mode of transport the estate has a great network of trails to thrill as does Cardinham Woods.
You'll be transported back in time with a day at Charlestown, marvelling at the historic tall ships moored in the tiny harbour and if you fancy taking to the water yourself, sailors will enjoy the beautiful sailing waters of St Austell Bay and for some family fun, hire a kayak or canoe and make your way up the estuary towards the charming village of Lerryn, the inspiration for Kenneth Grahame's 'Wind in the Willows'.
