KingNestled in an exceptional location, just beyond the dunes and sandy beaches of South Beach you will discover Wavecrest, a gorgeous dog-friendly retreat that can be enjoyed year-round. Be amazed by uninterrupted sea views and majestic sunsets where the sun meets the sea. Arranged over three levels, there is ample room for larger families or groups of friends to make lasting memories. Perfect for year-round holidays or celebrations, with up to two dogs welcome, everybody can enjoy this very special seaside abode.
Built as a beach chalet in 1933, Wavecrest has since been completely and sympathetically renovated and extended whilst retaining its charm and originality with some added luxuries! Ideal for a beachside holiday or exploring the sights and culinary delights that north Norfolk has to offer.
As the sun begins to set the place to be is the first floor sitting-room which has the best view from the house. Open the French doors to the balcony and take in the uninterrupted sea view to distant horizons. What better place to enjoy cocktails and the magnificent big skies that Norfolk is famous for. They do not come more spectacular than the sunsets at Wavecrest, changing by the minute the artistic hues could have been brushed from the palette of Monet himself. When the sun eventually gives way, the only light left has travelled millions of years from the stars themselves.
Step inside the ample entrance lobby/games-room, complete with table football and full-size table-tennis table. There is also a wet-room equipped with an accessible WC and shower. Returning from the beach, a side door leads to a walk-through shower area with a foot bath, ideal for washing those sandy toes after a swim in the sea or for sprucing up your four-legged friend! The large utility-room is perfect for drying off your beach wear and comes equipped with a sink and washing machine. There is also a boiler room where you can store your bicycles, kayaks, or other water sports equipment.
Climb the few steps to the central hallway, passing three of the bedrooms, a double and two twins, on your way through to the large ground floor open plan living-room where after a day's exploration or enjoying the beach you can kick back and relax in comfort. Here you can review the day's events together whilst enjoying family board games. As the day comes to a close light the log-burner as the chef conjures up a delicious feast in the superbly appointed open plan kitchen, which has an American-style fridge, microwave and two-oven range cooker. There is no need for marigolds, just load up the dishwasher and enjoy your evenings with loved ones.
For movie lovers, settle in and enjoy your favourite nostalgic films on the TV which also has a DVD player. If you prefer, simply curl up in the comfortable seating and relax with a good book or have some quiet contemplation time to the sounds of the changing tides. The sun-room offers tranquility and is sheltered by the sand dunes; on warm days open up the French doors that lead to the beach and let the sea air in. For those who just can't escape catching up on emails or even on a working holiday, take advantage of the study space beneath the stairs.
Climb the stairs from the open plan living area to the first floor sitting-room. This beautifully relaxed space boasts the best view from the house, with French doors leading onto the west-facing deck where, from this romantic setting, you will be inspired by the sunsets that sway across the sky.
The main bedroom on this floor, with its king-size bed and en suite, is light and spacious, boasting views across the Heacham river which is often enjoyed by local birdlife and gracious swans. Open the doors and enjoy your breakfast or a glass of fizz from your own private balcony whilst watching the wildlife on the river and the famous wetlands of Wild Ken Hill, as featured on BBC Springwatch.
To the front of Wavecrest, when not enjoying beach life, relaxing on the sands or playing in the dunes, there is ample room for ball games or setting up the table-tennis table. Leading off the open plan living area and kitchen is a stable-door giving direct access to an undercover sheltered eating space with round picnic table to continue the nautical theme. Fire up the coals and enjoy a barbecue, just keep an eye on the sausages! You can also enjoy the beach tradition of deck chairs in the dunes, handkerchief optional!
South Beach is known for its safe swimming and paddling, as well as its extensive sand flats at low tide, great to walk out to for some fun and exploration. Water sports enthusiasts are very welcome to bring their own boards and kayaks however we strongly recommend you check the tides so don't forget to look online or pick up your tide table!
The house is nestled amongst the Marram grass dunes at South Beach, just a few steps from the sea with uninterrupted views across The Wash. As well as two large balconies and a side deck, there is a large unfenced area around the house for football, cricket, etc. The large games-room with table football and full-size table-tennis table means that everyone can still stay active if it's less appealing outside.
There is parking for four cars however please note that Wavecrest is reached via an unmade road which can be bumpy, and may not be suitable for low slung vehicles.
The village of Heacham has a variety of shops and amenities, there are three pubs and open in the summer months is a fun seasonal beachside pub 'Silver Sands' that also serves food, as well as two fish and chip shops. In the heart of the village is the high street with a bakery, Post Office and cafe as well as a pop-in gymnasium and around the corner you will find Tesco Express, open late for those sometimes forgotten essentials!
If you fancy exploring the area on two wheels then bicycles can be hired in the village at Wallis although you may wish to book ahead! On the outskirts of the village is Norfolk Lavender, in the summer months the air is filled with the scent of lavender from the stunning fields adorned with shades from purple to white. You will also find a fabulous farm shop with a variety of local produce including bakery items and a butcher's shop.
A must-see is the Victorian seaside town of Hunstanton, boasting the iconic stripy lighthouse and white-washed cliffs with cliff-top cafe. With a selection shops on the high street to visit, you can easily spend a day exploring the area on foot, there's a theatre, bowling alley and a variety of places to visit. We highly recommend the beaches, especially at Old Hunstanton where there are soft sandy dog-friendly beaches and a lovely beach cafe which is usually open year-round.
There are a number of bird watching reserves within easy reach; Snettisham, the next village along the coast, has a charming nature reserve, it is also popular with sailors and there's an RSPB reserve at Holme-next-the-Sea, where you will often come across seals basking on the sands.
Royal followers may enjoy a trip to the Sandringham Estate a short drive away; explore the stunning gardens or take a tour around the house, with many shows hosted throughout the year it would be worth viewing their event calendar before planning your travels.
