As you step into Stella Maris its warm and cosy interiors will welcome you. Guests will love the large kitchen/diner set against the amazing backdrop of the shoreline. It will be hard to tear the chef away from the scenery outside. Enjoy local fresh fish or lobster or even forage for cockles and mussels and from right outside the door.

It will be easy to while away the time in the cosy sitting-room with its wood-burner, experience a crackling peat fire whilst drinking in the ever-changing vistas, especially at sunrise and sunset. Completing the ground floor is a large bathroom with bath and separate shower cubicle plus a good size double bedroom. When evening draws in escape to one of the three first floor bedrooms or choose the ground floor one, all with fluffy goose and down duvets (hypoallergenic available on request) and wind down in style.

Sit outside in the gardens and soak up the impressive panorama over the rugged croft land beyond including the ruin of the original croft house. A variety of birds can often be seen overhead, maybe spot a sea eagle, hen harrier or resident short-eared owl. Deer may be spotted throughout the Uists and in the water look out for seals and sea otters. Children will love the wishing well and playing on the large lawn.

Stella Maris is easily accessible; you can travel by ferry from Uig on the Isle of Skye to Lochmaddy in North Uist or alternatively from Mallaig or Oban to Lochboisdale on the Isle of South Uist. Upon arrival, you will enjoy a scenic 25-minute car journey to Benbecula from either Lochmaddy or Lochboisdale. If you prefer to fly, Benbecula Airport is just a short 15-minute drive away from Stella Maris. There are car rentals available, taxis and bus services. Take a look at our blog how to get to the magical Outer Hebrides for more information on how to reach this idyllic spot.

An island holiday is just that extra bit special and Benbecula lives up to all expectations. Take a gentle stroll along the white beaches framed with azure blue seas, hike up Ruabhal, Benbecula's highest point or take a cruise around the lochs. Culla Bay beach and West beach on Berneray are two beaches which are truly breathtaking.

If you are wildlife spotting, otters can be found on Loch a Chinn Uacraich in Griminish, whilst a cruise on the Lady Anne may give you a glimpse of a sea eagle or a playful seal or two. The Uist Sea Tours run sightseeing trips to Mingulay, Monach Isles and St Kilda.

The islands are full of talented craftspeople; local art work, pottery, hand-carved stone jewellery, wool spinning and two distilleries are just a few. Dancing Flower Crafts make one off unique Harris Tweed gifts inspired by the colours of the Outer Hebrides and watch wool spinning at Uist Wool.

There is plenty to tickle the tastebuds, for a delicious evening meal visit The Dark Island Hotel, or if you love fish then take a trip to Namara, a fish cafe on Grimsay Island with a view and what a view! (Open lunchtimes only). For a real taste of the Outer Hebrides 'Eat Drink Hebrides' is the official food trail. A self-guided journey through the Islands, what could be more delicious.

For the energetic there are gentle walks and more challenging hikes, hire a bike and follow the marked trails getting close to the wonderful nature surrounding you. South Uist is characterised by many lochs and North Uist has the most amazing white beaches with azure blue seas. And don't forget to visit the North Uist distillery in Nunton, or the Benbecula Distillery in Gramsdale which is easily spotted by the spectacular glass dome over the bronze still. All in all, a stay at Stella Maris could be your perfect holiday.
