Imagine life in a tranquil Dorset village and Ivy Cottage is just the sort of place you may picture in your mind. Set in the midst of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (now renamed National Landscapes), the cottage is situated in the pretty village of Cattistock. This traditional ham stone and flint, Grade II Listed, terraced cottage has been renovated to provide a delightful country retreat, full of character, yet with modern kitchen and bathroom facilities.

The ground floor of this charming property has a small cloakroom, sitting-room with wood-burner and modern kitchen/dining-room. This leads out into the conservatory, overlooking the sheltered south-facing patio and enclosed garden, which is a real sun-trap. Charming, turning cottage stairs lead to a double bedroom with king-size bed, a twin bedroom and a modern family bathroom with a rainfall shower. Ivy Cottage is close to the village church of St Peter and St Paul; the church clock chimes on the hour, which adds to the charm of this village location. There is also a well stocked village shop and post office on your doorstep.

Ivy Cottage is also a great base from which to explore this wonderful part of west Dorset. This dog-friendly village has numerous footpaths to explore the surrounding countryside and the spectacular World Heritage Jurassic Coast is just 14 miles away. Lyme Regis is well worth a visit; it has an active fishing harbour protected by its iconic Cobb, a great selection of cafes, pubs, restaurants and independent shops and a beach with watersports available in the summer.

The nearby quirky market town of Bridport has a market on Wednesdays and Saturdays and to the north of Cattistock, is the abbey town of Sherborne, which has two castles, some great places to eat and a very relaxed atmosphere.

The Isle of Purbeck is an hour’s drive but you will be rewarded by some stunning geological features along this stretch of the Jurassic Coast; Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door and Old Harry’s Rocks and the South West Coast Path connects them all. Corfe Castle has a commanding position above the pretty village of Corfe and the beaches at Studland and Swanage are safe for bathing and offer summer watersports too.

Just six miles from Ivy Cottage is Mapperton House and Gardens, where some of Far From the Madding Crowd was filmed and a relatively short drive will take you to Stourhead House and Gardens, which looks particularly spectacular in the spring, when the azaleas and rhododendrons are in bloom. After a day of adventure, your relaxing holiday cottage welcomes you home.

Take care on the turning, cottage stairs. Please note the owners have removed the high garden fence and replaced it with a picket fence and gate, so the space remains fully enclosed. You can go beyond the picket fence (into a continuation of the garden) but be aware the owners are improving this area and parts are yet to be cut back. We recommend children and dogs are kept within the first section of the garden only. *A cot is not provided, bring your own travel cot.
