Whitelady House is a lovely, spacious country retreat found down a private drive outside the Dartmoor village of Lydford. This 18th Century house is ideal for exclusive anniversary or birthday celebrations, family get-togethers or just for that special holiday. Lovingly renovated and furnished, it is characterful, comfortable and contemporary. There are open beams, inglenook fireplaces housing warming wood-burners, exposed stonework, old beams (some low), slate floors and two staircases. There is even an iPod dock and Wii console, whilst outside there is table-tennis in the barn and croquet for summer evenings on the lawn. The huge expanse of Dartmoor is no more than 100 yards from the entrance and the White Lady waterfall at the National Trust’s Lydford Gorge is also close by; indeed, the Gorge itself is found beyond the garden wall (take care with children and dogs). As well as garden furniture on the terrace, there is a hot tub to soak away the stresses of a busy life. Lydford has an ancient church, a castle (actually once a prison) and a good local pub, and for walkers, riders or bird watchers, Dartmoor is a real treat. And talking of treats, the Owner can also provide fully or semi catered three day weekend breaks and four day mid-week breaks. Semi catered means meals will be ready for you to pop in the oven with easy cooking instructions. Fully catered means meals are cooked for you and served to your party. All meals are chosen in advance from menus provided and are home cooked and locally sourced. Breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner are included and, if required, a packed lunch or picnic can be provided at cost. If you choose a catered option – the Owner can also include a list of suggested wines you may wish to purchase, ordered on your behalf from a local wine merchant for delivery to Whitelady House. This isn’t available for self-catering bookings, but the Owner is happy to take delivery of a Waitrose or Tesco order and put it away before you arrive. She can also provide meals for the freezer or cook and serve a special ‘one-off’ meal for you (by prior arrangement only). Whichever you choose, Whitelady House will provide a holiday to suit everyone. Please note three day short breaks can only start on Friday, and four day breaks start on Monday. Please note that the changeover times are 4pm on arrival and 10am on departure.
