DoubleA cosy rural retreat for two on the edge of the National Trust’s beautiful Penrose Estate, Smugglers Cottage nestles quietly beside a handful of similar stone dwellings in a truly peaceful setting at the end of a private unmade lane.
After each day’s adventure, the living-room's big squashy sofa will invite you to lounge in front of the wood-burner. Stairs lead to the pretty bedroom and the bathroom, which has a step up to the bath.
Outside is a private enclosed terraced garden, and a few yards away there is a picnic table in the grassed parking enclosure – perfectly placed for sunset watching or dining al fresco alongside horses grazing quietly in the nearby fields. RNAS Culdrose provides some entertainment with helicopters occasionally flying nearby, and the historic town of Helston provides all essential amenities.
Smugglers Cottage offers the ideal base for making the most of this part of Cornwall. There are walks with fabulous views across Carminowe Creek and Loe Pool on your doorstep, and the spectacular coastal footpath heads towards Porthleven in one direction, and Church Cove in the other.
The Helford River’s meandering creeks and wooded valley are a short drive away, as are the Lizard’s numerous scenic coves and fishing villages.
